Amanvo-Achara-Ihiku Bridge Under Repair
The Mayor of Isuikwuato Local Government Area, Hon. Chinedu Ekeke, yesterday led an inspection of major infrastructure projects across Uturu, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor, Hon. Ifeanyi Njoko, as well as community leaders, stakeholders, professionals, and concerned citizens.
The team began with the Amanvo-Achara-Ihiku Bridge in Ward 7, which is now undergoing critical repairs. The bridge had earlier been brought to the Mayor’s attention during a previous fitness hangout. Without intervention, it was on the verge of collapse, a situation that would have cut off residents from Ukwunwangwu Market, the area’s major economic hub.
Obiohia Bridge: A Decades-Old Challenge
Following the inspection of ongoing works at Amanvo-Achara-Ihiku, the Mayor and his team proceeded to Ikeagha II Ward 9 to assess the Obiohia Bridge on the Nvurunvu–Ukwunwangwu Road. The bridge has been in a deplorable state for decades, causing untold hardship to residents.
Mayor Ekeke expressed concern over the long neglect and gave assurances that the structure would receive prompt and necessary attention, restoring ease of access and movement for the affected communities.
Expanding Economic and Health Infrastructure
Despite heavy rainfall, Mayor Ekeke continued with his inspection walk, visiting parts of Ndundu in Ikeagha I Ward 8. There, he inspected sites earmarked for a community health centre and a new evening market.
The evening markets, currently being constructed in select communities across Isuikwuato LGA, are designed to provide safe and organized spaces for farmers, traders, and artisans to sell their goods in the evenings. This initiative highlights the Mayor’s strong commitment to promoting grassroots economic growth and improving local livelihoods.
Engagement With the People
The day’s activities culminated in a lively interactive session with the leaders and citizens of Ward 8. Mayor Ekeke listened attentively to their concerns, addressed pressing issues, and reassured them of his administration’s readiness to continue working for the collective good of the people.
