Communities in Kogi, Kaduna, and Plateau states were hit by deadly bandit attacks between Sunday night and Monday morning, leaving at least 11 people dead and more than 30 abducted.
Kogi: 2 killed, 30 kidnapped in Ayegunle Bunu
In Ayegunle Bunu, Kabba-Bunu LGA, armed bandits invaded around 2:25 a.m. on 1 June 2026. The Kogi State Police Command confirmed 2 deaths: 22-year-old passenger Abdullahi Hashimu and 65-year-old resident Chief James Obayomi. Police PPRO ASP Afusat Oyiza Saliu said 30 people were kidnapped — 26 males and 4 females — including bus passengers and 2 local residents. Security agencies have launched rescue operations.
Kaduna: Mosque attacked during Maghrib prayers
In Ungwan Namama, Giwa LGA, bandits stormed a mosque at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday while worshippers observed Maghrib prayers. One person was killed, 5 injured, and several others abducted. Community sources link the attack to a recent military operation that killed 8 criminals. Injured victims are receiving treatment at ABUTH, Zaria. Security officials say the attackers came from Zamfara and Katsina.
Plateau: 8 killed at birthday celebration
Gunmen attacked Gwon-Ajang village, Foron District, Barkin Ladi LGA around 10 p.m. Sunday, opening fire on villagers at a birthday event. The Berom Youths Moulder-Association confirmed 8 deaths and over 10 injured. Victims were rushed to nearby hospitals as security personnel were deployed to the area.
The wave of attacks has renewed concerns over insecurity on major roads and in rural communities across the North-Central region.
