The Abia State Government has announced a ban on the operation of commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, within the metropolitan areas of Umuahia, Aba, and Ohafia.
The directive, approved by Governor Alex Otti, is scheduled to take effect from Monday, June 22, 2026.
Government Cites Security and Safety Concerns
The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, through an official statement issued on Saturday.
According to the government, the decision forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security across the state, improve public safety, and address challenges associated with commercial motorcycle operations in major urban centres.

Commercial motorcycle operators have been directed to discontinue operations in these locations before the enforcement date.
