Sixteen-year-old Osasere Okundaye has made history by becoming Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant after successfully qualifying through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
Her remarkable achievement has earned widespread commendation, including praise from the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, who described the milestone as an inspiring example of hard work, discipline, resilience and excellence.
In a statement issued on Monday, the minister congratulated the teenager on attaining one of Nigeria’s most demanding professional qualifications at such a young age.
“I heartily congratulate Miss Osasere Okundaye on her outstanding achievement of becoming Nigeria’s youngest Chartered Accountant at just 16 years of age.
“This remarkable milestone is a testament to the power of hard work, discipline, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence,” Olawande stated.
The minister said Osasere’s accomplishment demonstrates the enormous potential of Nigerian youths and should encourage young people across the country to pursue excellence regardless of their age.
According to him, her success proves that determination, dedication and the right support system can enable young Nigerians to break barriers, set new records and achieve extraordinary feats.
“Osasere has distinguished herself as a shining example of the limitless potential of Nigerian youth. Her accomplishment reminds us that with determination, dedication, and the right support, young Nigerians can break barriers, set new records, and inspire a generation to dream bigger and strive for excellence,” he added.
Olawande also acknowledged the contributions of her parents, teachers, mentors and family members, noting that their guidance, encouragement and sacrifices played a significant role in her success.
“I also congratulate her parents, family, teachers, mentors, and everyone who has supported and guided her journey. Their encouragement, sacrifices, and belief in her abilities have undoubtedly contributed to this exceptional success,” he said.
The minister reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Youth Development’s commitment to implementing programmes and policies that empower young Nigerians and help them realise their full potential.
He expressed confidence that Osasere’s achievement reflects the bright future of the country in the hands of talented and determined young people.

By qualifying through ICAN at the age of 16, Osasere Okundaye has surpassed the previous national record set in 2022 by Jonathan Adewale, who became Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant at the age of 17.
The ICAN chartered accountant qualification is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most rigorous professional certifications and is typically earned by graduates and working professionals after years of study and multiple professional examinations.
