The Federal High Court in Abuja has refused to grant bail to John Jude Agbo, a man facing terrorism and cybercrime charges over an alleged plot to attack several schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik delivered the ruling after the Department of State Services (DSS) concluded its case by presenting its fourth and final witness before the court.
Agbo is being prosecuted on allegations that he planned coordinated attacks targeting schools, students and teachers within the FCT.
In dismissing the bail application, Justice Abdulmalik held that the defence failed to convince the court that the defendant would not abscond if released pending trial.
The court consequently ordered that Agbo remain in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service until further proceedings.
During the hearing, a DSS operative testified on the investigation carried out by the agency into the alleged terror plot and the roles played by Agbo and his suspected collaborators.
The prosecution also tendered an audio-visual recording of Agbo’s interview with DSS investigators, which was admitted as evidence and played before the court.
Following the presentation of the evidence, the prosecution formally closed its case.
Justice Abdulmalik subsequently adjourned the matter until September 24, when the defendant is expected to begin presenting his defence.
