The Supreme Court in Abuja on Monday, September 29, 2025, came alive with celebration as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, presided over the swearing-in of 57 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs). The prestigious ceremony also marked the official opening of the 2025/2026 Legal Year.
Among the honoured silks were two distinguished sons of Abia State whose elevation has stirred joy across the state and beyond:
- Ikechukwu Raphael Uwanna, SAN – Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Abia State.
- Nwaiwu Kelechi, SAN – a respected legal practitioner of repute.
Their elevation was met with widespread celebration. Government officials, colleagues, and community leaders poured in congratulatory messages, while on social media, prominent Abia voices hailed Uwanna’s elevation as a deserved recognition of his excellence and selfless service to justice.
A Ceremony of National Significance
The event attracted an impressive array of dignitaries. Beyond the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association and senior figures of the judiciary, several political leaders were in attendance. Among them were Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, Prof. Kenneth Kalu FCA, Kenneth Ahia SAN, Rtd Gen. Also spotted at the event was former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, further underlining the national weight the ceremony carries in Nigeria’s legal and political calendar.
