The Abia State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has concluded a five-day capacity-building workshop aimed at equipping its personnel with modern technological skills to improve security operations across the state.
The training, organised in collaboration with the Abia State Government, brought together heads of departments and divisional commanders from all 17 local government areas. It focused on Technological Advancement in Security Management, Intelligence, Investigation, Prosecution, Threat Communication Networks, as well as rules of engagement and weapon handling.
Speaking at the workshop, Governor Alex Otti, represented by his Special Adviser on Security Matters, retired Commander MacDonald Ubah, said technology has become indispensable in addressing modern security challenges and strengthening surveillance systems.
He noted that his administration remains committed to protecting lives and property through continuous investment in the training and professional development of security personnel.
Representing the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Audi, the Zonal Commander for Zone 5 (Abia and Imo States), Ahmed Gandi, urged officers to uphold discipline, teamwork and professionalism, stressing that Nigerians rely on the corps to maintain peace, safety and public order.
Abia State Commandant, Chukwuemeka Odimba, said the workshop was designed to expose personnel to emerging security strategies, digital innovations, intelligence gathering, threat assessment and modern communication technologies needed to tackle evolving security threats.
The training reflects the growing emphasis on technology-driven policing and security management as agencies across Nigeria adopt more advanced methods to combat crime and improve public safety.
