Agbama Residents Cry to Governor Alex Otti Over Electricity Challenges
Residents of F-Line Agbama Housing Estate, Umuahia, have raised a passionate appeal to Governor Alex Otti to urgently intervene in the lingering electricity crisis that has left the community in total darkness for years.
According to the residents, the problem stems from persistent transformer failures that have continued despite their efforts and contributions. They narrated how families in the estate were levied ₦12,000 each, raising about ₦4.5 million to fix a transformer that was donated by a prominent politician during the last campaign. Sadly, the transformer developed another fault shortly after repairs and has now completely broken down.
“Our estate has been in darkness for years. Even before the politician donated the transformer, there was no light. We have contributed money several times, we have paid NEPA, and yet there is no solution. The current transformer is beyond repair,” the residents lamented.
They stressed that the lack of electricity has made life unbearable, especially with difficulties in accessing water, security concerns, and the strain on households that depend on power for their daily needs.
“We are crying to the Executive Governor and to NEPA to come to our aid. This is an estate, and residents should not be subjected to this kind of suffering in this modern age. We sincerely beg the government to intervene,” the appeal reads.
The residents, with emotions running high, emphasized that stable electricity supply is not just a luxury but a necessity for survival in their community.
