Benue Assembly Suspends 4 Lawmakers Over Impeachment Attempt

The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four lawmakers for six months over an attempt to impeach Speaker Aondona Dajoh. The suspended lawmakers are Alfred Berger (Makurdi North), Terna Shimawua (Kian state constituency), Cyril Ekong (Obi state constituency), and James Umoru (Apa state constituency).

The suspension followed a motion of urgent importance moved by Majority Leader Saater Tiseer, who described the impeachment attempt as a “needless crisis.” The Speaker directed the Sergeant at Arms to lead the suspended lawmakers out of the chambers and appointed Audu Elias as the new spokesperson of the House.

The development has sparked controversy in the state assembly, with the suspended lawmakers likely to face significant repercussions.
