FG Launches One-Stop Digital Portal for Access to Government Services

The Federal Government has unveiled the Government Service Portal, a unified digital platform designed to provide Nigerians and businesses with a single point of access to government services, as part of efforts to improve public service delivery and accelerate the country’s digital transformation.

The platform was officially introduced during a soft launch in Abuja by Galaxy Backbone, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

Speaking at the launch, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, described the portal as a major step toward simplifying interactions between citizens and government institutions.

According to him, the platform addresses the long-standing challenge of navigating multiple government websites and offices to access public services.

“The Government Service Portal is the beginning of a unified digital gateway through which citizens and businesses can easily discover, access and consume services offered by government institutions from a single location,” he said.

Adeyanju explained that while many Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) had already digitised individual services, users still faced fragmented experiences due to the absence of a central access point.

He noted that the new platform aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, supporting improved service delivery, digital innovation and economic growth through technology.

The Government Service Portal also forms part of Nigeria’s broader Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) initiative, integrating with existing national digital identity, payment and data exchange systems to create a more connected digital government ecosystem.

The current rollout is a soft launch, allowing government agencies to onboard their services, improve system integration and gather public feedback before the platform is fully deployed nationwide.

Representing the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Mr. Johnson Bareyei, Director of E-Government, described the initiative as one of the flagship projects under Nigeria’s e-Government Master Plan 2.0.

He said the portal introduces a secure single sign-on system that enables users to access multiple government services without repeatedly submitting the same personal information to different agencies.

According to Bareyei, the platform supports the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan, and Nigeria’s Digital Public Infrastructure Framework, while promoting transparency, accountability and ease of doing business.

The Country Director of KOICA Nigeria, represented by Ki-Hyun Baik, described the project as the culmination of years of collaboration between Nigeria and South Korea.

He said the platform represents the flagship achievement of the “Building a Foundation Towards Digital Governance in Nigeria” project and will provide citizens with convenient access to government services through a genuine one-stop digital gateway.

Also speaking, Dr. Sampson Ebimaro, Director of International Cooperation at the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, stressed the importance of continuous collaboration and regular evaluation to ensure the long-term success of the initiative.

Meanwhile, Galaxy Backbone’s Executive Director of Digital Exploration and Technical Services, Olumbe Akinkugbe, disclosed that extensive user acceptance testing was conducted across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory before the launch.

According to him, 184 participants took part in the pilot exercise, with more than 80 percent describing the platform as user-friendly. He added that 88 percent successfully located government services, 71 percent rated the platform as fast or very fast, 91 percent indicated they would use it again, while 99 percent said they would recommend it to others.

Akinkugbe noted that feedback from the pilot phase had already resulted in improvements to user registration, image capture and one-time password (OTP) delivery, adding that more Ministries, Departments and Agencies will be integrated into the portal as the next phase of implementation progresses.
