The political camp of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North in the National Assembly, has been thrown into fresh crisis following the unexpected resignation of his spokesperson, Dr. Maduka Okoro, from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Okoro, a longtime loyalist of the former Abia governor and one of his most vocal defenders, stunned many when he formally quit the APC in a letter dated September 6, 2025, addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Ozuitem Ward, Bende Local Government Area. In the letter, he thanked the party for the platform but emphasized his decision to “explore new paths” that would enable him contribute better to his community, Abia State, and Nigeria at large.
The resignation has sent shockwaves across Abia North’s political landscape, with observers interpreting the move as a worrying sign of growing disarray within Kalu’s political structure. Analysts note that Okoro’s exit carries weight, as he was not only Kalu’s official spokesman but also a central figure in shaping narratives around the senator’s political strategies.

In his resignation letter, Okoro wrote:
“After careful consideration, I have decided it’s time for me to explore new paths and contribute to the growth and development of my community, state, and country in different ways. While I will no longer be a part of APC, I remain committed to making a positive impact wherever I go.”
