The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has partnered with non-governmental organisation U-Blaze Global Limited to intensify voter registration awareness in Ondo State ahead of the July 26 deadline for the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
The initiative forms part of the commission’s efforts to encourage eligible Nigerians to register as first-time voters, transfer their registration where necessary, or update their voter information in preparation for future elections.
INEC disclosed the collaboration in a statement following a voter sensitisation exercise held in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
According to the commission, the awareness campaign is designed to deepen voter education, promote responsible citizenship and increase participation in the electoral process.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ondo State Office, in collaboration with U-Blaze Global Limited, a non-governmental organisation, has organised a voter sensitisation walk in Akure to encourage eligible citizens to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ahead of its deadline,” the statement read.
The commission explained that the programme, tagged “PVC Assembly Walk 2026 – Vote Ready Ondo,” is part of a broader campaign to encourage eligible residents to register before the CVR exercise closes on July 26, 2026.
According to INEC, the initiative also targets individuals seeking to transfer their registration or update their voter records.
The sensitisation walk commenced at the First Bank Traffic Light in Alagbaka and proceeded through Omi-Eja, A-Division, Olukayode and Oja-Oba before terminating at Democracy Park, behind the Central Mosque in Akure.
Participants included students, members of U-Blaze Global Limited and officials of the Ondo State office of INEC.
Throughout the exercise, participants engaged residents on the importance of voter registration and active participation in elections.
“At the end of the walk, participants engaged members of the public in voter education activities, providing information on the registration process and highlighting the importance of citizens’ participation in the electoral process,” the commission stated.
Speaking during the event, the Head of Voter Education and Publicity at INEC’s Ondo State office, Mr. Olayinka Ogunseye, commended the partnership between the commission and the non-governmental organisation.
He said the collaboration reflects INEC’s commitment to expanding partnerships with civil society organisations and other stakeholders to strengthen voter education and public awareness across the state.
Ogunseye noted that the commission, under the leadership of the Ondo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, would continue to support initiatives that encourage greater participation in the democratic process.
He also urged eligible citizens who have yet to register, as well as those wishing to transfer their registration or update their voter information, to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise before the July 26 deadline.
Reaffirming its commitment to inclusive elections, INEC said it would continue to intensify voter education activities to ensure that every eligible Nigerian has the opportunity to register and participate in future elections.
The commission emphasised that broad voter participation remains essential to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process and called on residents of Ondo State to make use of the remaining registration period.
