Iran Faces Travel Restrictions and Visa Challenges Ahead of World Cup
Iran’s preparations for the FIFA World Cup have been overshadowed by travel restrictions and visa-related challenges after reports emerged that members of the country’s football delegation have been denied entry into the United States.
According to Iranian officials, players will be permitted to enter the United States only on match days and must leave the country within 24 hours, while several members of the team’s management and technical staff have reportedly been denied visas.
Players Restricted to Match-Day Travel
Iran’s ambassador to Mexico, Abolfazl Pasandideh, revealed that the national team would be required to enter and exit the United States on the same day as their matches.
The Iranian squad is currently based in Mexico due to ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States and was initially expected to stay in Tucson, Arizona, during the tournament.
However, under the current arrangement, players will reportedly fly into the United States on match days and depart shortly after their fixtures.
“We can enter in the morning and we must leave the same day,” Pasandideh told reporters.

Despite the restrictions, United States authorities confirmed that visas had been granted to all players and what officials described as “necessary support staff” ahead of Iran’s opening match.
US officials also stated that measures were in place to prevent abuse of the visa process, emphasizing that security considerations remained a priority.
The comments come amid continued diplomatic tensions between both countries, adding a political dimension to Iran’s participation in the tournament.
Iran Alleges Staff Visa Denials
Iranian authorities have expressed concern over the reported refusal of visas for several members of the team’s administrative and technical personnel.
In a statement, Iran’s embassy in Turkey accused the United States of politically motivated interference in sport, claiming that a significant number of managerial staff and technical advisers had been denied entry.
Iranian state media further reported that the president of the country’s football federation and his deputy were among those allegedly refused visas.
