The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), Young Progressives Party (YPP), and other political groups in Itumbauzo Ward have collapsed their structures into the Labour Party!
The event, which took place earlier today at the immediate community and ward of the Executive Chairman of Bende Local Government Area, Hon. Dcn. Uwabunkonye Bassey, was graced by Bende political stakeholders. Among them were the erstwhile Mayor of Bende LGA and Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Barr. Chijioke Nwankwo; the Abia State Liaison Officer, Abuja, Chief Iheanyi Frank Chinasa; the former Deputy Mayor and Abia Arise Bende Coordinator, Elder Onyedikachi Iroegbu, Itambauzo Councillor, Hon. Michael Israel Okpara, among others.
In their separate remarks, Hon. Chijioke Nwankwo, Hon. Iheanyi Frank Chinasa, and Dcn. Uwabunkonye Bassey praised the Governor for his visionary leadership and the massive infrastructural turnaround across Abia. They commended the new entrants for their courage in embracing progress, assuring them of continued government presence in the ward.
They further revealed that Ubibia Road, a key project within Itumbauzo, has been captured for construction by the Greater Ohafia Development Agency (GODA)—a move that underscores the Otti administration’s commitment to equitable development across the state.
During his speech, Mayor Bassey officially welcomed the new members to the Labour Party family. “You are in the right place. At a time when some choose darkness, you have chosen light,” he said. “With your entry, I am confident that our party will perform even better come 2027, especially here in Itumbauzo Ward.”
The decampees, led by the former Abia State Commissioner for Boundary Matters, Hon. Godwin Ndom, expressed their gratitude to the party leadership for the warm reception. They pledged their loyalty and commitment to the ideals of the Labour Party and assured of their readiness to contribute to its growth and success.
In his remarks, Hon. Ndom reaffirmed that their defection was driven by a shared vision for a better Bende and under a people-oriented political platform. “We have seen the sincerity of purpose and the leadership qualities of the Labour Party family in Bende. We are here to join hands and move our ward forward and have in extension our State ably led by His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti,” he stated.
Also speaking during the event, the Councillor representing Itumbauzo Ward in Bende Legislative Council, Hon. Michael Israel Okpara, welcomed the new entrants, describing their defection as a clear sign that the people are aligning with progress and accountability. Hon. Michael encouraged them to remain steadfast, participate actively in party activities, and work collectively to strengthen the Labour Party’s presence and support the giant strides of the Alex Otti administration in Itumbauzo Ward and beyond.
The event was attended by other dignitaries, including the Deputy Mayor of Bende LGA, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Anya; the Bende Labour Party Chairman, Hon. Lawrence Ezeh; and other prominent party leaders and supporters.
