Liberia Will Never Forget Nigeria’s Support, Says Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister

Liberia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ethel Davis, has reaffirmed her country’s enduring gratitude to Nigeria for its support during Liberia’s most difficult period, describing Nigeria as a trusted friend whose assistance will never be forgotten.

Speaking during a meeting with Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, in Abuja, Davis said Nigeria’s role during Liberia’s years of conflict remains deeply appreciated by the Liberian people.

“Nigeria is a country that Liberia will never forget.

“Why? Because this country was there for us through our darkest period in history.

“So, it is something that we will never forget,” she said.

Davis added that Nigeria occupies a special place in the hearts of Liberians, noting that many citizens would readily identify Nigeria as Liberia’s closest friend because of its longstanding support.

She expressed appreciation to both the Federal Government and the people of Nigeria for their unwavering solidarity over the years, describing the relationship between the two countries as one built on shared history and brotherhood.

According to her, the purpose of the meeting was to explore new opportunities for strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding collaboration in areas of mutual interest.

“We are here to further deepen the relationship that exists between our two countries,” she said.

Responding, Ambassador Enikanolaiye described Nigeria and Liberia’s diplomatic ties as historically rich and enduring, recalling Nigeria’s significant contributions to restoring peace, security and stability in Liberia during its years of civil conflict.

He noted that the relationship has evolved beyond official government engagements into a strong people-to-people partnership.

“This visit is intended to consult further on our bilateral relations, ensure there are no irritants, and fully explore opportunities for closer cooperation between our two countries,” he said.

Enikanolaiye also welcomed Liberia’s proposed investment summit scheduled to take place in Lagos in August, saying Nigeria would actively partner with Liberia to encourage greater private-sector collaboration.

He explained that expanding commercial, trade and investment opportunities would further strengthen diplomatic relations while promoting economic growth, peace, security and shared prosperity for both countries.

The meeting reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between Nigeria and Liberia and underscored both governments’ commitment to deepening cooperation across diplomacy, trade, investment and regional development.
