The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the suspension of Chief Mike Ozekhome from the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), pending the conclusion of ongoing disciplinary proceedings against him.
The decision was reached during the committee’s 173rd General Meeting held on June 23, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and Secretary of the LPPC, Kabir Akanbi, the suspension was approved in line with Paragraph 26(6) of the Guidelines for the Conferment of the Rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria and all Matters Pertaining to the Rank.
The committee explained that the action will remain in effect until the disciplinary proceedings before its Disciplinary and Ethics Sub-Committee, as well as other related proceedings, are fully determined.
The LPPC stated that the suspension is intended to preserve the integrity, dignity, and prestige associated with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria while due process is allowed to run its course.
As part of the directive, Chief Ozekhome has been instructed to refrain from presenting or holding himself out as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria for the duration of the suspension.
The committee emphasized that the decision does not conclude the disciplinary process but serves as an interim measure pending the final outcome of the investigations and proceedings.
Reaffirming its commitment to professional standards, the LPPC stated that it remains dedicated to promoting ethics, discipline, and integrity within Nigeria’s legal profession while ensuring that the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria continues to command public confidence and respect.
