Fresh reactions have trailed a publication attempting to discredit the administration of Hon. Engr. Chinedu Enwereuzo, Mayor of Umuahia South Local Government Area. The statement, described as “half-truths and selective narratives,” has been addressed by Mr. Kelechi Udonsi, Senior Special Assistant on New Media and Communications to the Mayor, who highlighted the progress made since the administration began.
From inception, Mayor Enwereuzo laid out a clear blueprint centered on inclusive development, infrastructure renewal, youth empowerment, agricultural growth, and grassroots engagement. Udonsi stressed that the Mayor has remained focused, responsive, and impactful in executing this vision, contrary to insinuations of “sleeping on duty.”
Education Initiatives
Education has been a priority for the administration. In partnership with the state government, renovation and retrofitting of 10 public schools across Umuahia South is already ongoing. Institutions such as Mgbarakuma Primary School, Amakama Community High School, Umuopara Secondary School, and Boys High School Umuoparozara are among those being upgraded. Others like Olokoro Girls’ Secondary School and Amizi Community School are slated for restoration, ensuring that learning environments across the LGA meet modern standards.

Infrastructure and Roads
The Mayor has also made visible strides in infrastructure. On February 18, 2025, he flagged off the construction of the Dr. Alex Chioma Otti Ultra-Modern Shopping Complex in Amakama Olokoro, a public-private partnership now nearing completion. Additionally, over 20 rural and link roads have been graded across wards, improving access and commerce. To further boost safety and nightlife, streetlights were installed across three wards through the Mayor’s collaboration with NDDC.

Youth Empowerment and Skills Development
Youth development remains at the heart of governance. Thirty young people have already been empowered with laptops and ICT skills, with fifty more lined up. In addition, a Skill Acquisition Centre at Isi-Court is being established to provide hands-on training for sustainable livelihoods, equipping the next generation of entrepreneurs and leaders.
Agriculture and Economy
Mayor Enwereuzo has introduced large-scale farming of ginger, garlic, tomato, cocoa, groundnut, and habanero pepper. These projects not only create jobs but also contribute to food security. The administration’s agricultural exhibition, the first of its kind in the LGA, provided farmers with improved seedlings, fertilizers, and modern techniques, empowering grassroots farmers with practical tools for success.

Security and Community Development
Through the establishment of the Umuahia South Vigilante Group, crime in schools, markets, and rural areas has reduced significantly. A new Rural Development Board, the first in the LGA, ensures that every community benefits from planning and implementation of projects.

Community Engagement and Accountability
Town hall meetings, institutionalized across all 10 wards, demonstrate the Mayor’s open-door leadership style. These forums ensure transparency, accessibility, and accountability, giving residents direct access to their leaders and fostering trust in governance.
In conclusion, the achievements of Mayor Enwereuzo’s administration reflect focus, commitment, and alignment with the broader vision of Governor Alex C. Otti, OFR. Far from being “inactive,” the administration is delivering measurable results in education, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and grassroots development. Udonsi emphasized that Umuahia South is witnessing a transformation that citizens should recognize and support.
