Nigeria Customs Debunks Fake Recruitment Update, Urges Public to Stay Alert

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has warned Nigerians against a fake recruitment update circulating on social media, stating that the information did not originate from the agency.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, the National Public Relations Officer of the Service, Abdullahi Maiwada, described the publication as false and urged members of the public to disregard it.

Maiwada emphasised that the NCS would only announce recruitment updates through its official communication channels and advised Nigerians to verify any information before sharing it.

“Members of the public are advised to disregard the publication and rely only on information disseminated through the official communication channels of the NCS,” he said.

He listed the Service’s verified social media platforms as:

  • Facebook: Nigeria Customs Service
  • Instagram: @customsng
  • X (formerly Twitter): @customsng
  • Threads: @customsng
  • TikTok: @customsng

The spokesperson urged job seekers to remain vigilant against misinformation and fraudulent recruitment schemes targeting unsuspecting applicants.

The warning comes as many Nigerians continue to await the conclusion of the Nigeria Customs Service recruitment exercise that commenced in December 2024.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Service received 573,523 applications during the first phase of the exercise after advertising 3,927 vacancies across the Superintendent, Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres.

Although several stages of the recruitment process were conducted in 2025, appointment letters have yet to be issued.

The Customs Service reiterated its commitment to transparency in its recruitment process and advised prospective applicants to rely solely on information released through its official platforms to avoid falling victim to fraudsters.
