Trump, FIFA President Infantino Booed During World Cup Trophy Ceremony

United States President Donald Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino were greeted with loud boos from sections of the crowd as they stepped onto the pitch for the trophy presentation following the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.

The pair appeared on the field shortly after Spain secured a 1-0 extra-time victory over defending champions Argentina at the New York/New Jersey Stadium on Sunday.

Trump, who attended the final as a guest of FIFA, watched the match alongside Infantino before joining the post-match presentation ceremony in front of a crowd of approximately 80,000 spectators.

As the two officials walked onto the pitch to present medals and the FIFA World Cup trophy, audible boos echoed around the stadium, briefly overshadowing the celebrations.

The final itself saw Spain crowned world champions for the second time after Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute to end Argentina’s reign as defending champions.

The match attracted a star-studded audience, with prominent figures from sports, entertainment and politics in attendance to witness one of football’s biggest occasions.

Despite the reaction from parts of the crowd during the presentation ceremony, the focus quickly returned to Spain’s celebrations as captain Rodri lifted the FIFA World Cup trophy to mark La Roja’s return to the summit of world football.
